- Background

The Bus Shelter Dorset is a lifeline charity dedicated to providing essential services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Operating from repurposed, vibrant containers that serve as temporary shelters, the organisation offers more than just a safe place to sleep; it provides hope and a pathway to a better future. Despite their commendable efforts, their existing website and brand identity did not effectively convey the energy and impact of their mission.

- The Challenge

The charity’s previous website design was outdated, featuring a generic template that lacked the functionality and visual appeal necessary to engage donors, volunteers, and service users effectively. The site suffered from poor navigation, limited accessibility, and failed to reflect the dynamic nature of the charity’s work. Additionally, the existing brand identity did not capture the vibrancy and uniqueness of their ‘micro flat’ shelters, resulting in a disconnect between their physical presence and online representation.

- The Strategy

Our approach was holistic, aiming to revitalise both the brand identity and the website to create a cohesive and compelling digital experience.

  1. Brand Identity Overhaul: We began by reimagining the charity’s visual identity to resonate with the boldness of their ‘micro flat’ shelters. A fresh logo was developed, complemented by a vibrant colour palette that exudes warmth and hope. Approachable iconography was introduced to symbolise the transformative journey of their guests, ensuring the brand narrative was both inspiring and reflective of their mission.
  2. Website Redesign: Led by our seasoned designer, Tom, the new website was crafted with a focus on simplicity, accessibility, and impact. Key user functions were streamlined to ensure donors, volunteers, and service users could easily navigate the site and access pertinent information. Bold headline fonts conveyed the powerful impact of the charity’s work, while the vibrant colour scheme and imagery brought the site to life, mirroring the energy of their physical shelters. The design prioritised mobile responsiveness, ensuring a seamless experience across all devices.

- The Result

The transformation has been profound. The Bus Shelter Dorset now boasts a digital platform that not only reflects the essence of their mission but also enhances user engagement. Founder Emily McCarron expressed her enthusiasm, noting that the new website has significantly improved their ability to tell their story and inspire action. Since the launch, the charity has experienced increased community engagement, with more donors reaching out and a surge in volunteer sign-ups.

The Bus Shelter Dorset is poised to expand its reach and make an even greater difference in the lives of rough sleepers in Dorset. Their revitalised brand and website serve as powerful tools in their ongoing mission.
