- Background

Witchelstowe is one of the largest and most ambitious housing developments in the UK. And we had the pleasure of designing and developing their first website. Fast-forward 6 years and the development is going strong, with 4,000 homes, a brand-new community, canal-side pub and blooming orchards.

Now it’s time to add a wildlife trail, where people can walk, run and explore. The 12km ‘Witchelstowe Trail’ will frame the development and encourage local nature and wilidlife to thrive. We were delighted to have been asked to create a sister site for the trail, encouraging people to make it their own.

- The Challenge

One of the main challenges in this project was the amount of moving parts. Since Witchelstowe Trail is a new feature of the development, the content came through bit by bit, rather than as a whole batch.

So, we put on our flexible hats and adjusted to this, aligning with timescales and scheduling loaded content as soon as it came in. The result? Less delays and maximum efficiency!

- The Strategy

Our strategy was simple – to make the website as fun and interactive as possible, with lots of engaging ways for people of all ages to feel involved. This was a really rewarding project for us, with authentic community roots and the opportunity to be super creative.

We included natural elements into the design styling, made an interactive map and designed a range of supporting assets including trail markers, leaflets and fact-sheets to help children fall in love with the trail from an early age.

One of the main USPs of the trail will be the captivating nature and wildlife that people can discover on the journey. From rare plants to lagoon otters, we highlighted 20 fun things to identify, snap pictures of and collect to keep people coming back as seasons change and the trail matures.

- The Result

We delivered a website packed full of functionality and interactive fun, on time and on budget. It’s a page where the whole community can learn more about the trail and engage in activities to kick-start the whole family’s enthusiasm to get outside and go explore!
