True blue. We have our own brand makeover to kick-start the new year.

After six years ‘dressed in black’ Jazzbones Creative has decided it’s time to put our money where our mouth is and give ourselves a little brand refresh.

You may have noticed we have been gradually phasing in a vibrant new blue colour into our branding and via our digital channels.

So why blue?

Blue is a primary colour across all models of colour space. It is the colour of the ocean and the sky; it often symbolizes serenity, stability, inspiration, or wisdom. It can be a calming colour, and symbolize reliability.

The use of the RGB blue is striking.

Nathan, Jazzbones founder and creative director said, “As we move into 2024 and the new year, I feel that it is a time for reflection and positivity. Our previous black colour was quite ‘heavy’ and a little depressing to some, so we wanted to inject some colour, vibrancy and positivity into our own brand identity.”

True to form we were also influenced by jazz, but not quite all blue as Miles Davis would have it, but in this case inspired by the lyrics of Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson from the song H2ogate Blues.

“So, there are six cardinal colors: yellow, red, orange, green, blue, and purple
And there are 3,000 shades
And if you take these 3,000 shades and divide them by 6, you will come up with 500
Meaning there are at least 500 shades of the blues
For example, there is the I-ain’t-got-me-no-money Blues
There is the I-ain’t-got-me-no-woman Blue
There is the I-ain’t-got-me-no-money-and-I-ain’t-got-me-no-woman
Which is the double blues”

Brand makeovers are our speciality at Jazzbones and colour is one of the key components of any company’s brand identity, alongside things like logo design and tone of voice.

For a company to effectively ‘own’ a colour in its sector can provide an enormous competitive advantage, achieving instant recognition – in some cases even without a logo, or even a mention of its name. That’s the power of colour, done right.

Think of Coca-Cola or Vodafone red, EasyJet orange, Harrods or Starbucks green, NHS light blue, Cadbury purple (an official Pantone colour!) or Guinness black and white.
